HOW YOU
CAN HELP
You've scrolled through this
website and you were touched by the sufferance but more important by
the efforts, hope and energy of the children of Berikids. Please do
not stop here until you give them a hand to enable them to create a decent
life for themselves within their community. Most young people dream
of emigrating to the Western world because they are desperate of the
hardship, penury, indifference and lack of care they face since they
were born, and they don't understand life in our countries is also
tough in its own way. With your help, we can change this.
I, the International
Representative of BERIKIDS lives in
Switzerland and spent 5 months in Kumbo last year (May to September
2006). I'll be happy to answer any question you may have and to
advise you on the best way you can bring your own special
contribution. Through the network I built up there, I'll also make
sure that your donation safely reaches its intended beneficiaries
and you get regular updates on how it is used. Contact
me at

Help can come in several
ways:
- Financial: Of course, donations, grants or legacies are
most welcome. Any amount is useful, there is no small amount. Funds
can be allocated to a special project (buy equipment, pay school
fees for X children per year, enhance the buildings) or be used for
the general expenses of the centre (for example electricity or water
bills are heavy burdens in Cameroon).
- Human: International volunteers are always welcome to spend
a few months at Berikids. They bring new skills, expertise,
practices that make a difference to the local people who often lack
access to the latest techniques. Volunteers are much needed windows
on the world. Accommodation is free in a neat 2-room apartment with
a Western-style bathroom and a gas cooker.
- Material: The centre needs constant supply
of tools and consumables to operate. From machines and tools for the
carpentry workshop to office stationary or threads and patrons for
the tailoring workshop. Due to high transport cost and custom duties
at the border, it is important to assess whether these goods are
best imported or locally bought. |
